Throw Me the Statue @ Captain's Rest
It's no (ahem) secret that I adore the Indiana-based record label Secretly Canadian. In fact, I'll come right out and say it: Secretly Canadian is my favorite American record label. With an artist roster that includes the likes of Jens Lekman, David Vandervelde, Antony & the Johnsons, Foreign Born, Bobb Trimble, Jason Molina, and, the band playing at Glasgow's Captain's Rest tomorrow night, Throw Me the Statue — how could an audiophile not love this label? Quite frankly, Secretly Canadian could release a compilation of fart sounds and I would buy it. Now that's consumer dedication. It's loyalty like mine which will save the global economy. Or not.
At any rate, I'm really excited to see Throw Me the Statue, whose recent album "Moonbeams" is a lovely blend of guitar- and synth-pop melodies under the angelic voice of frontman Scott Reitherman. Yes, "angelic." Swoon.
Tickets are £6 or, if you prefer, $9.26. I'm loving the $1.54 to £1 conversion rate.
